The Society finch, also known as the Bengali finch or Bengalese finch, is a domesticated subspecies of finch that gained popularity as a cage and trade bird in the 1860s after being imported from Japan. Its coloration and behavior have been intentionally modified through selective breeding in Asia, Europe, and North America over centuries.
