The Eclectus parrot is known for its significant sexual dimorphism, making it the most distinct among all parrot species. The males have vibrant emerald green feathers, while the females display deep red and purple feathers. This striking contrast was initially mistaken for two separate species. Their unique characteristics include a large head and short tail, and an average length of 35-42 cm (14-17 in). The species demonstrates reverse sexual dischromatism, where the males are mostly green with red underwings, blue primaries, and a yellow beak, while the females stand out with their red feathers, royal blue underbelly, and black beak.
