Coturnix Quail are known to live in pairs or small social groups, and during migration they may form larger groups. Interestingly, not all species migrate, but all are capable of quick, upward flight as a defense mechanism. Unlike other related genera, Old World quail do not usually perch in trees and instead spend a lot of time foraging for seeds and invertebrates on the ground in habitats such as grasslands, riverbanks, and cereal fields.
