The male Lady Amherst Pheasant can grow up to 100-120 cm (39.5-47 in) in length, with their impressive tail accounting for 80 cm (31 in) of their total size. Its nuchal cape, distinguished by its combination of white, black, and red, along with its vibrant red crest, make it easily identifiable. The long, greyish-white tail features black bars and red streaks at the base, while the chest and belly are white, the throat is scaled green, the back is dark green, and the wings are blue and brown. In display, the "cape" can be raised for added impact. These beautiful birds are often compared to the golden pheasant, but are slightly larger with a yellow eye and blue-green bare skin around it.
