The Himalayan Monal Pheasant is a sizeable bird, measuring approximately 70 cm (28 in) in length. The male can weigh up to 2,380 g (84 oz), while the female weighs in at 2,150 g (76 oz). The male boasts an array of colorful feathers, a long metallic green crest, coppery feathers on the back and neck, and a striking white rump that is most noticeable when in flight. Females, on the other hand, have more subdued plumage, with a white patch on the throat and a white strip on the tail. Younger males and juveniles resemble females, but the first-year male is larger and the juvenile has less distinct markings.
